I Went To Ulta Once, Never Again

They had their chance!

I have sensitive skin. Warmth, cold, wind, water, or even someone looking at it, my face turns red. I need to moisturize often, and I have accepted that my skin will never be as smooth as the models’ skin we see in ads.

Yet, I am always looking for new products to try. I don’t wear make-up, I focus on skincare. I go for cruelty-free and as natural as possible. It’s great, but harder to find. I didn’t want to order off Amazon — I know too much behind the scenes. I didn’t want to go to Sephora, it’s so expensive (and they didn’t have it).

So, I turned to Ulta. It was my first time! It took me a little while to find what I was looking for, but I found it. Picked up the last one on the shelf and walked toward the register.

When my turn comes, I hand out the product to the cashier, ready to pay. She asked for my email. I said I didn’t have an account and was not interested created one. A number then? No, not interested in receiving ads. She looked at me, somewhat frustrated, and let me know that I cannot buy without an email or a phone number.

What’s up with that?

There I was, standing at the register, about 5 people behind me, having to make a choice. I came all the way here (okay, it’s next to Walmart and it was groceries day, but still!). I can’t go to Sephora, they don’t have the product. I can order online, but it means paying delivery fees, probably supporting some warehouse’s shadiness, and it’s not very eco-friendly.

I gave in, gave a phone number, bought the product, and made the decision to never go back to Ulta after that.

The reasoning behind leaving a number or an email was to be able to exchange a product if we want to. Receipts are not good enough anymore!

Moral of the story? Make up a fake email address and remember to delete the emails to be mindful of the environment! Also, I’m sure karma is coming for Ulta.
